Mmmmkay, so I'm going to start writing an "Artist of the Week" article every Saturday, because - let's be honest here - there are some incredible people here that deserve a heads-up and a spotlight.

I'll start with those that I'm currently watching and then move on to any I discover throughout the course of my Adventures on the World Wide Web. Dunno if I'll post them as lit or as journal entries - proooobably both.

Anywho, keep an eye out, cuz these people are incredible.

All I seem to write lately is angsty YA romance. Partly because it's fun to write, and partly because I did one for a friend and now they ALL want one.

We're going to focus group it. It's really a problem.

ANYWAYS, just deal with all the mushy love stories. More zombie gore and dragon fights coming soon.

(On a completely different note: Lava Hot Springs is just a glorified swimming pool with REALLY cool slides and diving boards. That is all.)

SOOOO every year they have a Teen Writers' Conference up here in Utah, and I've gone for the past three years (I can just hear you now - but Annika, you're not a Teen! No duh, Sherlock, but it's open to 19-year olds so HA). They hold a contest that's open to all that are registered and I enter every year.

The first year I was like four points behind third place. Sad day, I know.

The second year I won second. Fifty bucks! Woot!

This year I took honorable mention! With something old! AHHH! SO EXCITED!

Sorry, had to tell you all :) I'm obviously really happy.

The piece I used was the Zombie Hunting one that I posted a few weeks back (read it if you haven't). We were only allowed to submit one page, and I put in the part where they hit the thing and then the other thing tries to eat her face and she's like BLAM and blows his head up andIreallyshouldn'tdrinkcaffeine.

*ahem*

I'll now be writing more of that piece, so stay posted for updates.

That is all.

But never fear, the complaints have nothing to do with DA.

Firstly, this past week a few artists whose work I LOVE have resurfaced and posted - I am one happy girl :) And some possible commissions? Dang, I'm stoked! Too bad I have a car payment and insurance and stuff now...I have to budget myself. Weird.

Secondly, my all-time favorite TV show and guilty pleasure, Teen Titans, announced that it's coming back with new full-length episodes in 2013. I KNOW, RIGHT?! Good things; original voice cast, same characters, generally same character designs. Bad things; different animation style and strictly comedic approach. But HEY, they came back! That's more than I ever thought would happen!

Now for the complaint.

Firstly I must tell you that this is strictly me venting. Nothing will ever come of it, I'm just plain ol' pissed off. I work for a small movie theatre that, all things aside, is ghetto. The building itself is like 20 years old and has been owned by three different companies in its lifetime. Currently it's an AMC, but the sign out front says Odeon Cineplex, and the sign by the road said Leows Cineplex. It's ghetto. Well this summer, to "improve community relations," they're having a free movie camp for kids! It starts today with UP. Now, when I was little, my mom took me and my brothers to this and we had a BLAST. I feel bad because my little sister was WAY too young to remember this, so I suggested that we go to this one. Not a bad idea, right? I mean, I'm EMPLOYED here, so it stands to reason I should get all the free movies I want, whether it be UP or the newest Batman. Needless to say my little sister was excited. Heck, my little brothers were even excited! So this morning I go to put in my availability and see that I have an email from my manager. I open it, worried that I missed the scheduling, but instead find that my family and i can NOT attend the summer movie camp BECAUSE I'm employed there.

Whut?

You want to improve community relations but you tell your employees to back off? And AFTER I'd picked up a movie schedule. Why not tell me when I got the damn paper that I can't come? He was standing right there, for Pete's sake. Here's a theory from the underlings, AMC. IF YOU WANT TO HAVE GOOD COMMUNITY RELATIONS, DON'T CHARGE $8 FOR A BAG OF POPCORN.

And don't hire socially inept dingbats to be in charge of managing. Frick. What's wrong with this world?
